Taking place on the 5-9 September, National Payroll Week acknowledges and celebrates not only the impact of payroll on business, but also recognises the contribution that payroll makes to the UK economy. Especially as taxable income accounts for nearly half of all taxable revenues through the (approximate) £513bn total tax revenue paid to the government, with £163bn collected through income tax and £109bn through national insurance contributions.
The theme for NPW 2016 is ‘it pays to learn’, focussing on the role that payroll can play in ‘educating the nation’. We are encouraging payroll professionals to think about how they can improve the financial understanding, and therefore wellbeing, of individuals employed by their organisation. Whether discussing the importance of financial awareness, or saving through payroll using a credit union, you can help educate your employees and make them more financially aware. By doing this, your employees could have a more positive attitude and improve their performance at work if they knew that their employer is supporting them. So this is your opportunity to show the positive impact payroll can have on the nation.
Last year we had over 1,500 organisations taking part in the week, the biggest NPW to date and for 2016, we want to better this and get even more companies on board. Make sure you and your payroll team get involved in becoming part of payrolls biggest celebration of the year, we’ve got plenty of ideas to get you started, so there are no excuses to miss out.
