CPD

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is important to every professional in whatever role or industry they work within. Being a payroll or pensions professional is no different, and it is important to keep up to date on the changes in legislation and processes that affect your role in order for you to perform your job successfully.

Through CPD you can apply any learning to your workplace and it should become part of your every day work. Working within payroll and pensions you sometimes have no choice but to keep learning and changing. It comes with the territory and is part of being a payroll or pensions professional.

It is the Chartered institute’s desire to make CPD a cornerstone of identifying a true payroll or pension professional. Studying for professional qualifications provides a valuable base of knowledge and keeping informed in an ever changing environment is vital to maintaining the original value of these qualifications.

Who should participate in CPD?

Everyone should participate in CPD – whether working full time, part time, in a permanent or temporary role or are unemployed.

CPD should be undertaken by everyone to help with performing their day to day role and potentially learn new skills.

Learning methods that are not specified as learning and development in the workplace, or on the job, are just as important as attendance at events. Shadowing a colleague, attending staff meetings and changes in software or procedures are all examples of workplace learning. New knowledge that can be applied on the frontline that is gleaned from reading or research is equally counted. CPD activity does not come only from studying for qualifications or attendance at events.

Log your learning and development online

The ePortfolio tool is available to members of the Chartered institute to enable you to record activities on an ongoing basis and, when required, submit these as evidence of your CPD. The system enables you to record things you are doing or thinking about, create plans for work you are doing and present to or share these records with other people via the web, either as individual items or as a collection of items.
