Employment law and its practical application

Who is this course aimed at?
This course should be suitable for those who apply employment law in their everyday work and understand the basics and how employment law can be applied practically. The emphasis will be on practical skills and making employment law understandable and usable.
Course aims
On completion, delegates should be able to:
- Have a good understanding of the basics of employment law, both statute and contract
- Know how legislation works through the recruitment selection, retention and performance within an organisation
- Know how to exit people from the organisation on range of options (and pitfalls) open to individuals
Course contents
- A background to employment law – contract law and law of statute
- Understanding the significance of recent legislation and day to day application, in particular:
- Equality Act
- Asylum and Immigration Act
- Reform of Employment Law 2011
- Dealing with disciplinary and grievances
- Social media in the workplace
- Redundancy
- The absence of the default retirement age and using a capability procedure
- Flexible working – how can we manage it to benefit all parties
