Completing a Successful Appraisal

Who is this course aimed at?

This course is appropriate for individuals who have to appraise a number of individuals at any level in the organisation and who wish to be more comfortable with the whole process.

What will I learn on this course?

Course participants will become comfortable with understanding core competencies and give feedback in pure behavioural terms (soft skills) as well as key performance indicators (quantifiable outcomes). The workshop will also help to develop techniques for agreeing achievable outcomes so as to help individuals achieve their objectives.

Course aims

On completion, delegates should be able to:

  • Have a sound understanding competency architecture
  • Have their skills developed and honed to be able to giving feedback (both positive and negative)
  • Have excellent technique for ensuring that objectives do not become new year’s resolutions that disappear into the wind but become realistic, achievable outcomes

Course content

The course content will cover some of the theory behind and then practical implementation and exercises in:

  • Setting objectives
  • Understanding work in the context of the ‘wheel of life’
  • Building rapport especially in difficult situations
  • The function of the role specification
  • Pitfalls in running reviews and guidance notes
  • Questionnaire to check learning
