Winners of 12th Annual Payroll and Pensions Excellence Awards announced

Winners of the 12th Annual payroll and Pensions Excellence Awards celebrated last night at the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales.

Now in their twelfth year, the awards were established to recognise individuals and organisations in the industry who demonstrate payroll and/or pensions excellence, and their positive impact on the UK economy.

Lindsay Melvin, CEO of the CIPP, commented: “Once again, this year’s entrants have been outstanding. Every year we see the quality of candidates get better and better which is testament to the great work the pensions and payroll industry does.”

This year’s winners were chosen by five judges from across the payroll and pensions industry; namely:

  • John Nolan MCIPPdip, payroll and benefits manager, Schroders
  • Cara Wright MCIPPdip, St. George’s University of London
  • Vicki Evans, payroll manager, Reiss
  • Maggie Anderson, HMRC
  • Martin Quartermain, payroll manager, Jaguar Land Rover

The CIPP payroll temp of the year 2015
Paul Laney for his hard and tireless work. The award also recognises him as a temporary candidate who has been truly outstanding in his role and has exceeded employer expectations.

The CIPP individual of the year 2015
Stacy Standen, Admiral Insurance - has made significant developments within her organisation, whilst demonstrating exceptionally high levels of CPD. In addition, she has been working on the implementation of a new expenses system and has developed an in-house approach to calculate average holiday pay.

The CIPP in-house team of the year award 2015
Haysstrive towards excellence through encouraging professional and personal development aligned with corporate goals. Demonstrating the impact payroll has on the overall business.

The CIPP payroll software product of the year 2015
MidlandHR demonstrated they are moving into the future concerning technology and innovation. Judges were most impressed with supporting evidence provided throughout their nomination.

The CIPP manager of the year 2015
Ian Hodson MCIPPdip, the University of Lincoln - revealed some excellent examples of significant improvements. Including leading the team through a major system implementation project and introducing self-serve technology.

The CIPP caring employer award 2015
University of Lincoln - the payroll department at the university has been the catalyst for a proactive wellbeing agenda, covering all aspects of wellbeing which has reduced stress related absence.

The payroll giving award 2015
Wm Morrisons Supermarkets plc the supermarket chain has demonstrated an innovative approach to payroll giving. The judges commented on their communication strategy which was excellent - especially in a difficult multi-site environment.

The CIPP’s project of the year award 2015
Admiral Insurance – was awarded the accolade for their project which ensured automatic enrolment compliance for their clients. The judges were impressed with the way Admiral started planning early.

The CIPP international payroll provider of the year 2015
Activpayroll confirmed the development of their innovative training and growth opportunities which lead to excellent customer service. The judging panel particularly liked their development opportunities.

MidlandHR – submitted an outstanding nomination, providing evidence of their commitment to customer service. In addition, judges highlighted the outstanding professional development of their payroll teams.

The CIPP working partnership award 2015
Alex Rowson - was awarded the accolade for his hard work in supporting the policy and research team at QTAC. During 2014 and 2015 in particular, QTAC has come to rely upon his knowledge and opinions due to the sheer volume of legislative changes coming through.

2015 honorary fellowship
Steve Webb – pensions has been high on the government agenda for some time, and Steve has a long list of achievements that have positively affected the perception of pensions within the UK.

The CIPP lifetime achievement award 2015 - payroll - awarded by the CIPP board of directors
Phil Nilson FCIPP - is arguably one of the most ‘famous’ individuals in the payroll industry. Known for his honest, open, upfront and comedic approach to delivering information from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. Phil has consistently furthered the cause of payroll and listened to members of the CIPP.
