Change in terminology for auto enrolment

The Pensions Regulator has announced that it will be seeking a ‘declaration of compliance’ from employers with effect from 24 June 2014.

The Pensions Regulator have explained this change as follows:

Why is the terminology changing?

Completing registration with us is a legal duty on employers and an important method for tracking compliance. That’s why we have renamed registration with declaration of compliance – a term that resonates more strongly with smaller businesses.

This coincides with the extension of automatic enrolment duties to the many thousands of these small and micro businesses across the UK.

Our research among these employers has shown that small and micro employers have a different understanding of registration than larger businesses. They identified more strongly with declaration of compliance as a description of the process that all employers must complete following their staging date.

We’ll be referring to employers’ duty to complete a declaration of compliance in all of our communications material and across our website shortly.
