Happy birthday Chartered membership!

The month of October is a special month here at the CIPP, as we celebrate our one-year anniversary since our launch of Chartered membership. Amongst our celebrations, we wanted to shine the spotlight on some of our Chartered members and their life since achieving this incredible accolade.
One of our successful and enthusiastic Chartered members is Nick Phillips ChMCIPPdip, who has found that this level of membership has ‘provided a payroll professional with the opportunity to achieve the same level of recognition of skills and experience that has long been available to finance and HR colleagues in their chosen fields.’
The launch of Chartered membership was something that stood out to Nick as he was ‘keen to support this new initiative and raise my own profile within the industry. This seemed like a natural progression, having completed the Foundation Degree four years previously.’
Nick went onto say that ‘the requirements for maintaining Chartered status, such as logging my range of professional activities on the CPD tool, will encourage pro-active engagement with others in the profession and ensure my knowledge remains topical and relevant’.
Having been awarded Chartered status, the benefits have been something quite special to Nick, and in his broader engagement within the profession. He tells us that it ‘has given me an increased level of confidence to contribute towards the ongoing discussion about improving and shaping the future of the payroll profession.
Not only has his confidence flourished personally and professionally, but Nick has also begun working with the Payroll Apprenticeship Trailblazer Group to develop training materials for the Payroll Apprenticeship. He added, ‘Training and mentoring the next generation of payroll industry leaders is something I’m passionate about and Chartered status gives me a platform to contribute’.
Further to this, Nick has also gone onto join REEF (Reward & Employment Engagement Forum) and has used his influence and insight at the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) by providing feedback about ways to improve HMRC guidance.
As Nick has only recently been recognised as a Chartered payroll professional, he is looking forward to the benefits that accompany this level of membership in the future. He goes onto explain that ‘as it achieves wider recognition and participation it will hopefully become an essential step on the career development pathway for payroll managers.’
‘For all these reasons and more, my advice to any CIPP members considering submitting an application is to go for it!’
