Should staff be given a choice of festive benefit?
08 January 2016
The CIPP festive poll revealed that 69% of respondents think staff should have a choice of festive gift/benefit.
The CIPP Policy Team ran a quick poll from mid-November 2015 for five weeks asking, “Do you think staff should have a choice of festive gift/benefits?”
The question received 202 responses, 140 of which (69%) opted for the answer yes, staff should have a choice.
62 people (31%) thought that staff should not be given a choice.
How many of these responses are from the perspective of an employee or employer is unknown, but interesting results none the less especially in the recent climate where more emphasis tends to be placed on the total reward package as opposed to just salary.
We reported on 9 December 2015 that after an implementation delay from government, the trivial benefit exemption will come into force from 6 April 2016. Legislation will be introduced in Finance Bill 2016 to provide a statutory exemption from tax for qualifying trivial benefits in kind costing £50 or less.
