Supporting small employers to offer job opportunities

29 September 2017

The government has a Disability Confident scheme that supports employers to make the most of the talents disabled people can bring to the workplace.

Small Employer Advisers are now in place in Jobcentres. Their role is to help and encourage local small employers to offer job opportunities to people with disabilities or health conditions.

The Small Employer Offer was introduced in June 2017 as part of the Personal Support Package for people with disabilities or health conditions.

A package of in-work support is available to both employer and employee when an opportunity is accepted.

The Small Employer Adviser will also help jobcentre colleagues ensure that they take health conditions and access needs into account when making referrals to vacancies or work-experience opportunities.

Disability Confident

Disability Confident is a scheme that supports employers to make the most of the talents disabled people can bring to the workplace.

Disability Confident organisations play a leading role in changing attitudes for the better. They’re changing behaviour and cultures in their own businesses, networks and communities.

The scheme helps employers:

  • Draw from the widest possible pool of talent
  • Secure high quality staff who are skilled, loyal and hard working
  • Improve employee morale and commitment by demonstrating that you treat all employees fairly

It also helps customers and other businesses identify those employers who are committed to equality in the workplace.
