Government publishes response to the consultation on cheque imaging

07 July 2014

In April 2014 the CIPP responded to the government’ consultation document on cheque imaging. The government has now had a chance to read and respond to the consultation and, in line with the views of CIPP members, intends preserving the right of customers to continue presenting paper cheques at bank branches, along with pressing ahead with its plans to allow cheque imaging through smartphone technology.

The government will be working with stakeholders to agree a date for implementation. We will keep you updated as progress is made. In the meantime you can read the government’s response by following this link.
