The Employment Rights Bill is still stuck in the final stages on consideration of amendments. There has been widespread concern that introducing unfair dismissal protection from day one of employment would deter businesses from hiring new staff. Other measures in the Bill for day one rights to statutory sick pay and parental leave will remain untouched, with the hope they will still go ahead and be implemented from April 2026.
