The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has launched a new online tool to help everyone check your state pension age – to improve public awareness of when individuals become eligible for State Pension. It is important to be aware that the State Pension is different to an employee’s workplace or personal pension.

The tool allows you to find out:

  • when you will reach State Pension age
  • your Pension Credit qualifying age
  • when you’ll be eligible for free bus travel.

You will only need to enter your date of birth. The calculator will then provide you with your state pension age and the year you will reach it. In addition, there are some useful links where you can read more about the Third State Pension age review. This review considers whether the rules around pensionable age are appropriate, based on the latest life expectancy data and other evidence. Plus information about The New State Pension, and a forecast tool showing what your future pension may look like.

The State Pension age is regularly reviewed (The Pensions Act 2014 requires the government to review State Pension age at least every six years.) So, the results of this tool may change over time. Currently, the pension state age is scheduled to rise from 66 to 67 between April 2026 and March 2028, affecting those born on or after 6 April 1960.

Remember, your State Pension doesn't start automatically. The Pension Service will write to you around four months before you reach State Pension age to invite you to apply.

Analysis shows that millions of people are under saving for retirement. Please encourage any colleagues or employees to use the tools provided to see how to better their financial future.
