30 July 2014

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, has opened a new HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) digital facility in Newcastle, marking a new stage in the development of HMRC’s digital services.

The HMRC announcement mentions that the new facility will be used to create and develop further services such as online tax accounts. It notes that HMRC now handles 1.15 billion transactions a year, comprising 70% of all government transactions. These include 304 million PAYE transactions of which 95% are completed digitally.
