New financial secretary to the Treasury appointed

Victoria Atkins is the new financial secretary to the Treasury, after being appointed on 27 October 2022. She is the Treasury minister who will be responsible for tax policy and customs.

Atkins previously worked for the Ministry of Justice, and from 2017 to 2021, she was the Parliamentary under secretary of state for crime, safeguarding and vulnerability at the Home Office. She was elected as the member of Parliament for Louth and Horncastle in May 2015. Prior to this, she was a criminal barrister. 

Atkins said:

"We will be working hard to protect the vulnerable, as well as people’s jobs and livelihoods, in these difficult economic times. We will do this by restoring stability and growth in our economy.”
