Worcs Acute Hospital NHS Trust awards payroll contract to NHS Shared Business Services

03 September 2014

Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is set to make significant cost savings in payroll and pensions administration after awarding a five-year contract to a leading business support specialist, NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS).

The £1.2 million contract builds on the trust's partnership with NHS SBS, a public-private joint venture with the Department of Health, which has been providing finance and accounting support services to the trust since 2005.

Alongside the immediate cost savings, NHS SBS will seek ongoing efficiency savings through its dedicated specialist delivery team, adoption of LEAN-driven processes and technology improvements. This includes the adoption by Worcester Acute of NHS SBS's web-based ePay solution which has been developed in partnership with NHS clients to improve the accuracy of recording timesheet and expenses data.

The latest contract builds on the growth of NHS SBS's employment services which currently processes more than two million payroll transactions each year on behalf of 78 NHS clients with 99.8% accuracy.

Recently, NHS SBS also became the 'go-to' expert on auto enrolment for 34 clients, which ensured a smooth transition to meet the new rules on behalf of 23,100 NHS employees.

Tasy Warn, NHS SBS director of employment services commented: "We're looking forward to supporting Worcester Acute Hospitals and becoming an extension of the in-house team. This builds on our philosophy for combining the efficiencies that can be derived from shared services while still maintaining a flexible, personalised service."
