With the election over and the new governments work underway, there will be much to discuss in the coming months and many pledges that will impact payroll departments across the country. This is why we asked Which manifesto pledge you thought was the most important for payroll.

We received multiple comments that more than one of the options were important, therefore it is important to understand that the data shows what is considered most important, not that any option selected infrequently is unimportant.

As we can see, there is no runaway winner, with a number of responses hovering around the 15% mark. Just reaching the top, however, was the modernisation of HMRC. This comes as no surprise, as payroll professionals we have a relationship with HMRC far beyond that of a normal individual and are aware of the limitations and issues present with the organisation.

Interestingly, the second most selected option brings forward several employment related protections and rights. These will be fantastic for employees but may bring additional costs and administrative burdens for employers and payroll teams. On the other hand, removal of the minimum wage age bands would reduce administrative burdens and assist in reducing non-compliance, as we know this can be an area were errors occur.

Thank you to all who responded to the poll, it is appreciated. Thank you for those who left comments about the poll itself, we will continue to allow as much interaction as possible while keeping the Quick Polls quick.
