With the changes coming to National Insurance (NI) on 6 January 2024, the policy team wanted to know if you knew when those changes will be implemented in your organisation.

Due to the timescales involved, the government gave an out to businesses who may not be able to implement the changes in time, allowing them to backdate the overpaid NI at a later date.

However, the results speak for themselves:

Response

% responded

Implementing at some point after 6 January and intend to backdate overpaid contributions

0.22

Implementing from 6 January 2024

69.87

Unsure of timescales, dependant on internal testing

0.44

Unsure of timescales, dependant on software roll out

29.48

As we can see, the majority of respondents will be able to implement the changes by the required date, with the majority of the remainder waiting for confirmation from software providers.

It is great to see that extremely few respondents intend to implement after 6 January 2024 and backdate overpaid NI. While this is accounted for in the government’s rollout of the change, it does have an impact on individuals finances, especially after the expense of Christmas.

Thank you to all who responded, we had a fantastic completion rate of this poll. Look out for the next one and respond if you are able, we really do appreciate it.
