Spending Round to be delivered on 4 September

29 August 2019

The Chancellor has confirmed that the Spending Round, which will set departmental budgets for 2020/21, will be delivered on 4 September, with the full multi-year Spending Review now due to take place in 2020.

The Chancellor, Sajid Javid said the Treasury will carry out this accelerated exercise to ensure departments and devolved administrations have the financial certainty they need to deliver their plans on public services next year.

The fast-tracked Spending Round will deliver on the Prime Minister’s priorities – including health, schools, and the police – while still meeting the existing fiscal rules.

Sajid David said that this will also clear the ground ahead of Brexit while delivering on people’s priorities, and to ensure departments can focus on delivering Brexit by 31 October.
