Rachel Reeves has delivered the Spring Statement and promised no further tax increases. This doesn’t mean that all is quiet for payroll professionals from this speech.
The chancellor announced four new consultations from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) around tax avoidance, compliance and data usage. The consultations are:
- Closing in on promoters of tax avoidance - GOV.UK
- Enhancing HMRC's ability to tackle tax advisers facilitating non-compliance - GOV.UK
- Behavioural penalties reform - GOV.UK
- Better use of new and improved third party data - GOV.UK
The Policy team will be looking into each of these new consultations and will publish an individual peice on each so you can fully understand their impacts.
In addition, further information on a reward scheme for informants was revealed:
“Reform rewards for informants: the new HMRC reward scheme for informants will be launched later this year, targeting serious non-compliance in large corporates, wealthy individuals, offshore and avoidance schemes. The new scheme will take inspiration from the successful US and Canadian models, rewarding informants with compensation linked to a percentage of any tax taken as a result of their actions”
