The 2020 Future of Payroll report is here

08 September 2020

The survey was launched in June 2020 and like the previous year, it was distributed to the UK payroll community through News Online, standalone marketing emails and through social media.

The CIPP’s Future of Payroll report has been made possible through the collaboration of a high number of payroll professionals within the United Kingdom, and the support of JGA, Workday and Zellis.

The CIPP would like to thank those who did respond as this enables a greater understanding of where payroll is in the 21st Century. The CIPP is passionate about the future of payroll, and this report will explore the survey results and industry developments to provide payroll professionals with some ‘food for thought’ regarding what the future may look like, as well as how they can start to think about new developments which may lead to a more strategic role within their organisation. This year the survey was launched approximately eight weeks into the UK lockdown, and therefore the results contained within give some insight into how payroll as a profession is being affected by world events.

For the profession to continue to grow it is important to recognise that things will need to change to ensure that payroll takes its rightful place alongside the other business functions, and positively in the report, you will see that 60% of respondents said that payroll was represented at a board level.
