Draft legislation has been published for the new Bereaved Partners Paternity Leave (BPPL) that will be introduced from 6 April.
UK employees will be entitled to up to 52 weeks of unpaid leave if their partner or the child’s primary adopter dies before the child’s first birthday.
The leave entitlement will be a day one right and will provide legal protections, allowing the employee to take up to 52 weeks of unpaid leave in one block to care for their child.
There will be no statutory payment for BPPL, however employers can choose to offer discretionary pay to support the employee if they wish.Information provided in this news article may be subject to change.
