Closure of the coronavirus SSP rebate scheme

23 February 2022

An email circulated by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has highlighted that the coronavirus statutory sick pay (SSP) rebate scheme will close on 17 March 2022. Claims can be submitted up until 24 March 2022, giving organisations a week to send them off.

SSP cannot be claimed for coronavirus-related absences or self-isolation that happens after 17 March 2022.

As of 25 March 2022, there’ll be a return to the normal SSP rules, meaning it will be payable from the fourth qualifying day an employee is off work, regardless of the reason for their sickness absence.
