It has been no secret that the government intends to increase revenue by clamping down on non-compliance, while helping business to get their tax right, without unnecessary admin burden.
The latest area of focus for the government has been to recover money lost to COVID fraud. As a result a voluntary repayment scheme has been launched, giving individuals and business an opportunity to repay any pandemic scheme money, they didn’t need or were not entitled to, with ‘no questions asked’.
The deadline for the “use it or lose it” opportunity is December 2025, giving just a short window to repay before the tougher sanctions come into force.
A new reporting tool has also been launched. Allowing anyone to easily report a person or organisation that may have committed fraud in relation to any of the COVID-19 support schemes.
