The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has released two new consultations as part of the Make Work Pay collection.

The application of zero hours contracts measures to agency workers.

The government currently seeks the views of agency workers only at this time.

There will be a further consultation released at a later date on the general implementation, that will be open to a wider demographic.

Collective redundancy and fire and rehire.

This consultation is looking to obtain views on ways to strengthen the collective redundancy framework and protections for employees against fire and rehire practices.

The government are proposing to increase the maximum period of the protective award that a tribunal can award, considering two options:

  • increase the protective award that a tribunal can award from 90 to 180 days
  • remove the cap on the protective award entirely

This consultation will close on 2 December 2024
