Economic advisory council formed

On the same day that the new chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, announced a raft of U-turns from the Growth Plan (17 October 2022), it was also announced that a new advisory body would be formed.

The economic advisory council will assist the government with monetary policy, complementing the Bank of England and Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR). Hunt commented that they would provide “more independent expert advice to ministers”.

The council comprises initially of the following members:

  • Rupert Harrison, BlackRock
  • Gertjan Vlieghe, Element Capital
  • Sushil Wadhwani, PGIM Wadhwani
  • Karen Ward, J. P. Morgan Asset Management
