During the 2024 Budget the government announced that employee car ownership schemes (ECOS) would be brought into scope of Benefit in Kind (BiK) rules from April 2026.

In today’s budget it was confirmed that the implementation will be delayed until April 2030, incorporating transitional arrangements until April 2032. This will allow a more realistic time scale to prepare and adapt to the changes.

HMRC has published a policy paper this afternoon.
