The UK’s inflation rate has fallen according to Office for National Statistics (ONS) to 3.2%, the lowest rate in eight months.

The rate is lower than economists predicted, mainly due to lower prices of:

  • food and non-alcoholic drinks
  • alcohol and tobacco
  • clothing.

Economists were already predicting that the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will lower the interest rate tomorrow (18 December 26) before the latest CPI figures were released.

The next Consumer Price Index (CPI) update is due to be released on 21 January 2026.
