14 August 2024

In a government press release, the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) detailed a meeting which took place on 14 August 2024 involving a number of trade unions and business organisations on plans to “Make Work Pay”.

In the release, Labour’s intention to bring an Employment Rights Bill to parliament within 100 days of entering government has been re-affirmed. Also mentioned is the Single Enforcement Body, which will ensure employment rights are upheld.

Part of the plan to Make Work Pay was the changing of the Low Pay Commissions (LPC’s) remit to include the actual cost of living in its minimum wage calculations. This new remit has now been provided to the LPC.

Further engagement is planned where we will be invited to share insights via consultations. Keep an eye out for communications from us to share your thoughts with the policy team and ensure the voice of payroll professionals is heard and considered in planned legislation.
