Only two weeks left to switch Post Office card accounts

22 March 2022

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) warn that there are still 6,800 Post Office account customers who need to switch account to avoid disruption to their benefit payments.

Tax credits, Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance payments cannot be made to Post Office accounts from 6 April 2022. If customers already have an alternative account, they should contact HMRC with these as soon as possible to prevent any issues with payment.

Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance customers can use their Personal Tax Account to provide revised account details, change their bank account details via GOV.UK or by contacting the Child Benefit helpline on 0300 200 3100. Tax credits customers can change their bank account details by contacting the tax credits helpline on 0345 300 3900. If customers cannot open a bank account, they should contact HMRC.

Since October 2019, HMRC has managed to ensure 143,000 accounts have provided updated details. If the 5 April deadline is missed, payments will be paused until new details are received by HMRC.

With just two weeks to make the switch and inform HMRC, if you know of any employees that this may impact, now is the time to act.
