Temporary self-certification extension comes to an end

28 January 2022

In December 2021 the government announced a temporary extension of the number of days you can self-certificate for sickness from work. This was extended from the usual 7 to 28 days to increase GPs availability to assist with the vaccine booster rollout.

Any sickness absence that started between 10 December 2021 and 26 January 2022 (inclusive) can continue to be self-certificated for up to 28 days. For absences starting on or after 27 January 2022 the 7-day period will apply.
