Pension Regulator’s automatic enrolment enforcement action

Due to the expected high volume of employers who reached their staging date last autumn, the number of times The Pensions Regulator used its powers in the quarter for January to March 2018, makes up 20% of all the powers used since the start of automatic enrolment.
The enforcement action included issuing:

Nearly 20,000 Compliance Notices (CNs)

Over 11,000 £400 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs)

Over 2,500 Escalating Penalty Notices (EPNs)
This high number was due to a bulge of employer staging dates in autumn 2017, with their declaration of compliance due date falling five months later. Further details can be found in TPR’s latest quarterly compliance and enforcement bulletin.
