If so, HMRC have published an online calculator that should, in many instances, confirm whether you need to submit an SA return for the 2017-18 tax year
Taking you a through a number of questions the calculator aims to help provide you with a reliable response to confirm whether you do – or do not – need to submit a Self Assessment return for the 2017-18 tax year. Not all instances are covered however and if you are uncertain in any way contact HMRC.
If you receive tips, gratuities or commission which have not been subject to tax you will need to inform HMRC however depending upon the amount you received during the 2017-18 tax year you may not need to submit a Self Assessment form.
Self Assessment isn’t just a process for the self-employed.
The calculator is available at gov.uk and Self-Assessment Returns for 2017-18 must be submitted online by no later than midnight of the 31 January 2019. The deadline for submitting SA returns on paper has passed and was the 31 October 2018.
