HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) released a further consultation to its wide-ranging investigation into how to raise standards in the tax advice market; this time the consultation considered ways to strengthen the regulatory framework.
One of the ways HMRC is considering this, is to mandate professional body membership for payroll professionals working on behalf of a paying client, therefore bureaux. Another is for HMRC to enforce minimum standards of entry and annual declaration to prove up to date knowledge and compliance.
The policy team have responded to this consultation which concluded on 29 May. You can view our response here.
