New webinar sees HMRC, the GLAA and the EAS join forces

30 June 2022

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs’ (HMRC’s) national minimum wage (NMW) team, the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) and the Employment Agency Standards (EAS) inspectorate are coming together to deliver a webinar which covers how businesses can ensure workers’ rights are protected.

The session will discuss some of the key risks in this area, exploring what could go wrong, and how to put things right when errors are made.

Of particular interest to payroll professionals will be how to check that the NMW is being paid correctly, avoiding any underpayments. The webinar will also discuss how to identify modern slavery in the workplace and explore the range of legal obligations that apply when engaging agency work.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions throughout the session, with several experts available to support in getting things right.

The webinar is taking place on 19 July 2022, from 10:30 am, and you can register here.

We know there are plans for a single enforcement body to be introduced, combining the powers of HMRC’s NMW team, the GLAA and the EAS inspectorate. This was a commitment in the Conservative manifesto, and was discussed in the Queen’s speech in 2019, within the Employment Bill. While we currently have no timeframe confirming exactly when the body will be formed, does this joint webinar suggest movement in this area? As soon as any additional news on the single enforcement body is made available, we will report within News Online.
