Did you know? HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has a page dedicated to the various methods of contact that can be used should you require technical support with HMRC online services.
Some of the support services available are:
Online Support
- get help with problems signing in
- find out what to do if you’ve lost your user ID, password or activation code
- check service availability and see if there are any problems with HMRC online services (including error messages)
- the ‘Get help’ or ‘Is there anything wrong with this page’ link on the page can also be used.
Ask HMRC online
- ask HMRC’s digital assistant to find information about technical support with HMRC online services
If the digital assistant cannot help you, you can ask to be transferred to a webchat with an HMRC adviser (if they’re available).
Phone Support
- call HMRC if you’re having technical problems (0300 200 3600)
This helpline may ask for some security questions, therefore, make sure your personal details and address are up to date in your personal tax account.

HMRC Employer Services Update
Due to industrial action between 10 May – 2 June 2023, HMRC Employer Services phone lines will be open between 9:00AM-5:00PM.
Therefore, customers may experience longer wait times than usual on the following HMRC Employer Services phone lines:

HMRC strongly encourages customers to use the improved online services, including the HMRC Digital Assistant.
Payroll Professionals Should Be Wary of HMRC Scams
Payroll professionals should also be aware to check genuine HMRC contact that uses more than one communication method. Recent contacts from HMRC can be checked on the dedicated page, to help decide if a suspicious email, phone call, text or letter could be a scam. This can also be reported to HMRC here.
