Criteria for Chartered membership

There are two routes for applications; via qualifications or experience. Evidence over over five year's experience at a strategic level will be required for both routes.

Experience

Should you wish to apply via the experience route, you will be required to demonstrate your technical competence and extensive experience in three of the five competency areas listed below:

Technical assessment (payroll)

  • Managing payroll information systems
  • Managing payroll staff
  • Managing the payroll
  • Producing the payroll – mandatory
  • Supporting the organisation

Technical assessment (pensions)

  • Administering pensions - mandatory
  • Managing pensions information systems
  • Managing the pensions function
  • Managing the pensions staff
  • Supporting the organisation

Qualified

Should you wish to apply via the qualifications route, you will need to be able to evidence one of the qualifications below:

CIPP qualifications satisfying the criteria:

  • Advanced Diploma in Payroll Management
  • BA (Hons) in Applied Business and Management (CIPP)
  • Diploma in Payroll Management
  • Diploma in Pensions Management
  • Foundation Degree in Payroll Management
  • Foundation Degree in Pensions Management
  • MSc in Business and Reward Management
  • MSc in Payroll and Business Management
  • MSc in Payroll Management

External qualifications satisfying the criteria:

  • CIPD level 5 Diploma in Human Resource Management
  • CIPD level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management
  • Payroll Alliance Advanced Diploma in Payroll Management (level 5)
  • PMI Diploma in Retirement Provision
  • The Payroll (Learn) Centre – Pearson Edexcel BTEC Level 5 Professional Diploma in Payroll Management
