Antenatal appointments: time off to accompany a pregnant woman

15 September 2014

The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) have confirmed that from 1 October 2014, expectant fathers, or the partner of a pregnant woman, will be entitled to take unpaid time off work to attend antenatal appointments with their partner. They have issued a guidance booklet for employers.

This new BIS guide for employers includes information on:

· who is entitled

· how much time an employee can take off

· an employee’s right to redress if their request for time off is refused
