Autumn Budget 2021: Universal Credit taper reduced

27 October 2021

Rishi Sunak has confirmed that changes will be made to Universal Credit (UC) by no later than 1 December 2021.

This will result in claimants keeping an extra 8p for every £1 worth of net income that they receive, as the taper rate will reduce from 63% to 55%.

In addition to this, Work Allowances will be increased by £500 per year, and the UC surplus earnings threshold will remain at £2,500 until the extended date of April 2023.
