Quick Poll results: 56% of organisations were not aware of limits to the coronavirus SSP rebate scheme claims

30 September 2021

The CIPP’s policy team recently launched a Quick Poll, which explored how organisations were utilising the coronavirus Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) rebate scheme the results are now in!

Businesses are only able to claim back for a maximum of the total number of employees who were enrolled on PAYE schemes as of 28 February 2020. We wanted to assess if this was having an impact on businesses and payroll teams.

 We asked the question:

Have you reached the maximum claim limit for coronavirus-related SSP repayments?

The majority of respondents (56%) confirmed they were not even aware that there was a limit. Our advisory team also confirmed that members have submitted queries relating to this. 33% revealed that no, they hadn’t reached the claim limit, with the remaining 12% stating that the limit had no effect within their organisation.

It was recently confirmed that the coronavirus SSP rebate scheme can only be used for employees who were off work on or before 30 September 2021. Claims relating to that period must be submitted, or amended (if applicable), on or before 31 December 2021. Guidance on the topic has been amended to reflect this update.
