HMRC has a great variety of ‘Talking Points’ subjects coming up over the next month which provide ongoing information, guidance and tips to help you to understand tax issues.

Income from property, minimising the risk for individuals

Dealing specifically with expenses, deductions, allowances, reliefs and repairs. We will also look at the relief for the replacement of domestic items and the restrictions to income tax relief for finance costs.

Demystifying Certificates of Residence for Limited Companies

This meeting will explain all you need to know about applying for a Certificate of Residence, without us needing to write back to you for more information. It will help your clients claim double taxation relief at the earliest opportunity.

Paying HMRC – What’s changing

The methods by which HMRC will accept payments is changing. The post office transcash service will be withdrawn in December 2017. Join the meeting to find out about all the alternative electronic payment methods that are available.

Simple Assessment is here

HMRC introduced simple assessment from 11 September. It starts the process of ending the annual tax return for those with straightforward tax affairs. This meeting will explain the new system in more detail, helping you to understand the improvements this will bring to managing your clients tax affairs.

Pension Scheme Registration - how to correctly complete the APSS146 Income Tax repayment form and SA970 tax return

Explaining the correct completion of the form APSS146, which is a ‘Pension Scheme Registration for Income Tax Repayment’ and how to correctly complete the SA970 tax returns and the common errors made.

Intellectual Property Office (IPO), a basic introduction to trade marks

In this meeting the IPO will give a brief overview on intellectual property, focusing on trade marks. It will provide guidance on how to search for trade marks, UK filing, International routes and costs.

This will cover the common reasons for rejection of company tax returns and how to avoid late filing penalties.
