Six benefit types coming to an end being replaced by universal credit

09 May 2022

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will be sending out letters, known as a migration notice, to individuals who are in receipt of benefits. All claimants for the below benefits will be transferred by 2024:

  • Child Tax Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Working Tax Credit.

Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and other such benefits will not be affected.

Individuals will have three months from the date the migration notice was sent out to act and claim universal credit. This time is given to gather information and documentation for the claim process. Individuals who cannot make a claim within the deadline are encouraged to contact the helpline as soon as possible.
