ACAS guidance for employee suspension

There are times when you may need to make the tough decision to suspend someone. This isn’t always for employees under investigation, it may be a medical or pregnancy suspension for health and safety reason.

ACAS has published guidance on how to handle suspension in various cases. The four sections covered are:

  • suspension during an investigation
  • suspension during pregnancy: employers
  • suspension during pregnancy: employees
  • medical suspension.

The sections cover what things you will need to consider, if alternatives to suspension are available, the pay and dismissal requirements. There is also advice for supporting employee wellbeing during a period of suspension.
