Temporary change to agent code service

13 July 2017

HMRC has publicised some temporary changes to the PAYE for employer’s agent code service.

HMRC regularly carry out service changes in order to complete routine maintenance, as well as make more specific improvements. Changes are normally made without customers noticing or during weekends, when there is less use; however, in some cases, services need to be offline for longer periods depending on the nature of the work.

The system used by agents who want to obtain new PAYE for employers agent codes, will need to be taken offline temporarily in order to bring the service up to an improved standard.

Whilst this happens, the service to obtain new codes online will switch to a manual process during the quieter summer months. This is so that HMRC can have an updated system ready in the autumn, well ahead of its peak use in spring 2018.

HMRC do not expect there to be much inconvenience for agents and ask for patience while they conduct these necessary changes.

HMRC apologise for any inconvenience the work may cause.
