Handling staff absence can be tricky for any business, especially if you are just starting out. Acas has now published updated guidance on sickness absence.

Acas advice gives both employers and employees support on how to manage and record staff absence while they are off work and, on their return to work. The guidance specialises in helping small business owners and employers with various types of absence such as long-term sickness, maternal/paternal leave, annual leave and more.

The new and updated guidance covers:

  • checking holiday entitlement and sick pay
  • fit notes and proof of sickness
  • time of for dependants/parents
  • returning to work after absence
  • creating absence policies
  • recording and reducing sickness absence
  • absence trigger points.

Any type of worker absence can cause a strain on the workplace, especially new and small businesses who may not have strong absence policies in place. Acas training courses are now available in both face to face and digital formats. Find out more about Acas absence related training courses, here.
