Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme claims for May 2020

19 May 2020

HMRC has sent a reminder that, in order to receive a payment relating to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) by the end of May, businesses will need to make a claim through the online service by no later than Wednesday 20 May.

Once claims have successfully been submitted through the portal, claimants will receive the grants into their designated bank accounts within six working days. Once a claim has been made, businesses will be required to retain all records and calculations in case HMRC needs to contact them to discuss the claim.

The scheme has been extended to run until the end of October, continuing in its current form until the end of July. From August, more flexibility will be introduced so that businesses are able to bring furloughed staff back to work part-time, but will be required to pay a portion of employee wages while still receiving support from the government. Further details will be released by the end of May.

CIPP comment

Ahead of the release of the amended guidance for the CJRS to reflect its new levels of flexibility from August, the CIPP’s Policy and Research team would really value feedback from members,  in relation to the information that they feel needs to be provided within new guidance.
